Printing Guide

Everything you need to get your journal from file to page.

Your journal arrived as a digital PDF — which means you choose how it gets printed. This guide covers everything: which edition to use, where to print it, what to ask for, and what it will cost. Most people are up and running in under an hour.

If you run into anything not covered here, contact us here and we'll get back to you.

Which Edition Should I Print?

Your download includes both. Choose based on where you're printing.

Color Edition

Navy and gold throughout — the way the journal was designed to look. Requires a color printer and heavier paper to hold the ink well.

Take this file to a commercial print shop. They have the paper, the printers, and the binding equipment to do it properly.

Best for: FedEx Office, Staples, or any local print shop with coil binding.

Black & White Edition

A clean, ink-friendly version formatted for home printing. All the content, none of the color ink. Works on standard 20 lb copy paper.

Print it at home, punch the pages, and put it in a binder — or take it to a print shop for a few dollars.

Best for: Home printers and anyone who wants to start today without a trip to the store.

Common Questions

Paper & Binding
What paper weight should I use?
60–80 lb text paper is the sweet spot for both editions. It's heavier than standard copy paper, so pages don't bleed through when you write on them, but light enough for a comfortable journal. Ask your print shop for "60 lb text" or "24 lb bond" — they'll know what you mean. Standard 20 lb copy paper works for the B&W edition at home.
What binding do you recommend?
Coil binding (also called spiral binding) is the best option. It lies flat when open, which matters when you're writing. Most print shops offer it for $3–5. Comb binding works too. If you're printing the B&W edition at home, a three-hole punch and a simple binder is a perfectly fine alternative.
Should I laminate the cover?
For the Color edition, yes — a laminated cover protects the navy and gold from wear and gives the journal a more finished feel. Most print shops can add a matte or gloss laminate for a few dollars. For the B&W edition it's optional.
What size is the journal?
The journal is formatted for standard 8.5" × 11" letter-size paper. Print at 100% — do not scale to fit. Select "actual size" or "no scaling" in your print settings.
At a Print Shop
What do I say when I walk in?
Show them the PDF and say: "I'd like this printed double-sided on 60–80 lb paper with coil binding. Color cover, laminated if possible." That's all they need. If you're using the B&W edition, skip the color and laminate.
Can I email the file ahead of time?
Yes — most print shops accept files by email or through their website. FedEx Office, Staples, and most local shops all have online upload options. Upload the PDF, select your options, and either pick it up or have it shipped.
What will it cost?
Prices vary by location, but here's a reasonable estimate:
Option Estimated Cost
Color edition, coil bound, laminated cover $12–18
Color edition, coil bound, no laminate $10–15
B&W edition, coil bound at print shop $4–8
B&W edition, home printed + binder $1–3
Printing at Home
Can I print the Color edition at home?
You can, but results vary significantly by printer. Home inkjet printers often struggle with deep navy backgrounds — ink can bleed, colors can look flat, and pages may curl. If you have a high-quality color laser printer and heavier paper, it's worth a test page first. Otherwise a commercial print shop will produce a much better result for $12–18.
Any tips for printing the B&W edition at home?
A few things that help: Print double-sided if your printer supports it — it cuts paper use in half and makes for a cleaner journal. Select "actual size" in print settings so margins don't shift. If you're going through a lot of ink, draft mode is fine for the interior pages — just print the cover at full quality.
How many pages is it?
The Daily Watch is 52 pages. Printed double-sided, that's 26 sheets of paper. Abiding in the Fruit and Connection Points have their own page counts — check the How to Use page inside each journal.
Reuse & Reprinting
Can I print it more than once?
Yes. Your purchase grants you permission to print the journal for personal use as many times as you like. Print a new copy when you're ready for another thirty days, or when someone in your household wants to go through it.
Can I print it for a small group or Life Group?
Each person in a group needs their own purchase. If you're leading a group and want to discuss licensing options for multiple copies, contact us here — we're glad to work with you.
